Your Travel Experience with South American Tours DMC

Today, a city tour will give you a first comprehensive impression of this culturally and historically unique city located 2,800 m above sea level. The focus is on a tour of the historic old town, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its wealth of Spanish, Flemish, Moorish and pre-Columbian architecture. You will pass the Independence Square with the Government Palace and the cathedral. Visit the church La Compañia, which has an ornate façade and a richly decorated interior. Afterwards, get to know the church of San Francisco.

Enjoy a chocolate tasting and learn useful facts about the production of high-quality chocolate. Learn interesting facts about the history of cocoa and why Ecuador is the best country in the world for growing high-quality cocoa.

Afterwards, drive to the “Mitad del Mundo” (“Middle of the World”) equator monument about 25 km away. At the marked line, you can stand with one foot on the northern hemisphere and the other on the southern hemisphere at the same time. The 30-metre-high monument, crowned with a giant brass sphere, points exactly to latitude 0.

Inside there is a small, very tasteful ethnographic museum, which illustrates the colorful mixture of peoples from the various Ecuadorian regions and ethnic groups in the country.

Then return to the hotel.
