Day 1
You will be met at the airport in Puerto Maldonado and will drive to the Corto Maltes office, where you can store any luggage that you don’t require during your stay. We continue to the harbor, where you board a boat. After a 40-minute boat ride on the Madre de Dios River, you will arrive at Corto Maltes Lodge, where you will enjoy a fortifying lunch. This is followed by a break to settle into your rooms and rest before the first excursion.
In the afternoon, explore the rainforest surrounding the lodge in the company of your knowledgeable naturalist guide. On this approximately two-hour jungle hike you will get to know tropical trees, medicinal plants and the diverse fauna. Toucans and other bird species can be observed from one of the observation towers. Visit a Shiringuero camp where one of the most important economic activities in the Madre de Dios region will be explained to you. It is a replica of a camp in which latex is obtained and processed. Before dinner there is a night caiman safari where caimans and, with a bit of luck, other animals that inhabit the river banks can be observed. Dinner at the lodge.
Day 1 - 2

Day 2
After an early coffee or tea, head to Sandoval Lake. After a 20-minute boat ride on the Madre de Dios river, you will reach the jetty, the starting point for the 3km hike to the lake. Through the lush vegetation of the rainforest, you enter the area of the Tambopata National Reserve. It is home to huge trees, snakes, monkeys (squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys and capuchins) and birds (especially the hoatzin - also called crested grouse or stinkbird, kingfishers and darters). Once you arrive at Lake Sandoval, you will set out in rowing boats to look for the giant otters. We will also have the opportunity to see caimans, piranhas and a wide variety of birds. You stop in a quiet spot on the lake to enjoy your breakfast package in front of a unique backdrop. Return to the lodge and have lunch.
After lunch, visit one of two observation towers, each 20 and 42 meters high. Birds and other animals that stay at this altitude can be observed here. You will then visit a Brazil nut camp (also known as Brazil Nuts or Castaña). The Brazil nut is one of the most important export commodities in the Madre de Dios region. Free time and dinner at the lodge.
Day 2 - 3

Heute Morgen frühstücken Sie in der Lodge und fahren dann etwa 20 Minuten mit dem Boot, bis Sie zu einer „Chacra“ gelangen, einer kleinen Farm. Hier lernen Sie verschiedene tropische Früchte kennen, die in der Dschungelregion angebaut werden, darunter Kakao, Banane, Cocona, Noni, Brotfrucht, Maniok, Limetten. Natürlich haben Sie die Chance, einige der Produkte zu verkosten. Dieses Stück Land gehört einer lokalen Familie, welche mit viel Hingabe und ohne chemische Substanzen einheimische Pflanzen auf natürliche Weise kultiviert, um diese später auf dem Markt in Puerto Maldonado zu verkaufen.
Anschliessend besuchen Sie eine Familie des Machiguenga Stammes, eines der vielen Völker des peruanischen Amazonas. Hier erhalten Sie einen Einblick in deren Traditionen, Lebensweise und Tätigkeiten wie Fischfang, Jagd und Handwerk, die sie in althergebrachter Weise von ihren Vorfahren übernommen haben. Lernen Sie, wie Naturerzeugnisse verarbeitet werden, um Werkzeuge, Wohnstätten Kleidung und Schmuck herzustellen. Gemeinsam mit der Familie werden Sie unter freiem Himmel zu Mittag essen. Rückkehr zur Lodge und freier Nachmittag. Abendessen in der Lodge.
Day 3 - 4

Day 4
After an early coffee or tea, head to the parrot salt lick, which you can reach after a hike of around 20 minutes. The birds come here to eat the salty clay, which is only found in certain places in the region and is essential for regulating their metabolism. A colorful spectacle where up to 5 different species of parrots can be observed.
After breakfast at the lodge, take the boat back to Puerto Maldonado. After a short stop at the office or luggage storage, we continue to the local market. During a short visit you will gain an insight into the various local products that the local population uses. You will then be taken to the airport.
Excursions are shared with international travelers and accompanied by an English-speaking guide. Excursions depend on weather and seasonal circumstances and might be modified by the Guide. Pool of the lodge is periodically closed for maintenance.
