Visit to the Riobamba market
Today starts with a visit to the Riobamba market. Here you can learn all about typical Andean products and the customs of the locals.
Transfer to Cuenca including a visit to Ingapirca
You then set off on the 5.5-hour journey towards Cuenca. On the way, you will visit the ruins of Ingapirca (“stone walls of the Incas” in Cañari), the most important monument of pre-Hispanic cultures in Ecuador. The site is located on a grassy hill at an altitude of 3,100 m and was of great spiritual importance to the Incas even before the construction of the Temple of the Sun between 1450 and 1480. In 1470, the Inca king Yupanqui subjugated the Cañari tribe and presumably built the city of Ingapirca on the ruins of one of their places of worship. On a walk around the former ceremonial, residential and resting place, you will learn about the beliefs and rituals as well as the construction of the puma-shaped sanctuary of the Incas, who describe themselves as “direct descendants of the sun god”.
Lunch in Ingapirca.
Once you arrive in Cuenca, check into your hotel.
